Now IF, the last three sentences don’t scare you, then you can be on your way to a very enjoyable, rewarding, and even money making adventure. Please note, if you are in it only for them money then DON’T EVEN GET INTO IT. You must look at being an official as a hobby or as anything, but a job. A job is something you have to do to make a living and support a family. Officiating should be something you look at as enjoyable and worth your time. With that said, the money, helps make it even more enjoyable and you will see it is worth your time!
This blog will over time go through the step it takes to become a licensed high school sports official! After that it will help you learn the ropes, mechanics, and rules of various sports; baseball, football, basketball, lacrosse, softball, golf, and hockey! I am currently coming back to officiating after taking years off with my young family. I will be in my 18 season as a baseball official, ninth season as a football official, and in my fourth season as a USA Hockey official.
The later entries will give you the details on the first steps to getting licensed. After that, I will explain to you the equipment needed, how to learn the rules and mechanics, and where to pick up games and advice. Finally I will post the mechanics, positioning, and specific information for each of the three sports I officiate!
