Please note, if you are in it only for them money then DON’T EVEN GET INTO IT. You must look at being an official as a hobby or as anything, but a job. This blog will over time go through the step it takes to become a licensed high school sports official! After that it will help you learn the ropes, mechanics, and rules of various sports; baseball, football, basketball, lacrosse, softball, golf, and hockey! I am currently coming back to officiating after taking years off with my young family. I will be in my 18 season as a baseball official, ninth season as a football official, and in my fourth season as a USA Hockey official.
The later entries will give you the details on the first steps to getting licensed. After that, I will explain to you the equipment needed, how to learn the rules and mechanics, and where to pick up games and advice. Finally I will post the mechanics, positioning, and specific information for each of the three sports I officiate!
Call it right!
